You Deserve a Choice in Protection... |
|
Atlas cares about the safety of your personal
possessions. When we accept your belongings for shipment, every
member of the Atlas moving team treats them with the same
consideration you would give them yourself. So, when you choose a
mover, choose one that cares. Let Atlas Take You Home!
Although
every effort is made to handle all your belongings with care,
occasionally an item may be lost or damaged. So, Atlas Van Lines
offers you several levels of liability protection should anything
happen while your shipment is in transit. The cost to you varies
with each level of protection. This is not insurance coverage.
Rather, it is an agreement between you and Atlas as to Atlas'
liability for lost or damaged articles. For the most suitable
coverage, please read the following descriptions of each
type and make the choice that's right for you. If you have any
questions, consult your Atlas agency representative. |

The Three Kinds Of Valuation Available
Standard Protection
All carriers must offer this basic level of protection. There is no
cost to you. When you select Standard Protection, the maximum amount
of carrier liability is $.60 per pound per article. The amount you
are entitled to receive for an article is determined by the weight
of the damaged article. For example, a 40 pound stereo unit
originally purchased
for $200 ten years ago may cost $375 to replace at today's prices.
If your shipment was released at this level, the carrier's maximum
liability for any damage to this stereo is $24 (40
pounds x $.60). Obviously, this may not cover the cost of repair or
replacement.
|
Declared Value Protection
You may prefer to select Declared Value Protection. When you release
your shipment at this level, you have two ways to determine the
amount of liability coverage for your
shipment. One is to assign a lump sum figure as the maximum amount
of carrier liability; however, the amount you assign must be at
least $1.25 times the weight of your shipment.
Or, you can assign a dollar amount per pound (which must be greater
than the minimum of $1.25). Your cost for Declared Value
Protection is $.70 per $100 of valuation and the amount recoverable
is based on an article's depreciated value. |
|
For example, assume your shipment weighs 3,000
pounds and you used $2.50 per pound to establish the amount of
liability coverage you desire. Your entire shipment would be
valued at $7,500 ($2.50x3,000 pounds). The cost of this
protection would be $52.50 ($.70 per $100 of valuation). |
|
Again, assume your stereo is ten years old and
today's replacement cost is $375. If your shipment had been
released under Declared Value Protection, based on normal
depreciation, your maximum amount recoverable would be $112.50.
(Depreciated value for most items is based on the "Joint
Military/Industry Depreciation Guide".) Once again, this
option may not cover the cost of repair or replacement. |

Full Value Protection-Option A
Most families want the peace of mind and
the assurance offered by Full Value Protection. Atlas
designed this level of protection precisely with that in mind.
In the event something should happen while your belongings are
in Atlas' care, a damaged article is fully repaired or a lost or
destroyed item is replaced. There's NO deductible and NO
depreciation with Option A. |
|
To determine the amount of protection for
your belongings and the cost of this protection, refer to
the Full Value Protection rate card. Again, you may select a
lump-sum value (the minimum is $3.50x the weight of your
shipment or $10,000, whichever is greater). Or, you
may select any valuation amount on the card you believe
provides for full coverage of your belongings. You are
charged at the rates shown on the card. |
|
With Full Value Protection, any article
that cannot be repaired will be replaced at its current
replacement value. (Atlas, relying on expert damage
appraisers, determines whether an article can be repaired or
of it must be replaced.) Using the ten-year-old stereo
as our example, Full Value Protection means that, if a
stereo of the same type and quality costs $375 today, your
settlement from Atlas will be $375. |
|
Option B or C |
Option B-Full Value Protection with a
$250 deductible
Option C-Full Value Protection with a $500 deductible
Full value Protection Options B and C offer you the same
level of protection as Option A, once the deductible has
been met. Because you share in the damage claim up to
whichever deductible amount you select, the coverage costs
you less than Option A. |
|
Under Options A, B and C, if a damaged
article cannot be repaired, it's replaced with an article of
comparable quality. |
|
Regardless of the Full Value Protection
option you choose, the cost of this level of protection is a
small price to pay to protect your possessions when compared
with today's prices. |
|
Atlas Van Lines is not an insurance
company; therefore, the options available under this item
are contractual limits of liability as provided for in the
Interstate Commerce Act, Title 49 U.S.C. Section 1073(a),
and are not to be construed as "insurance". |
